This simulator was created in March 2016 for the world premiere performance of The "If Only" Game. Throughout the production, the characters communicate in many different ways including using several texting and messaging systems. This is the iOS skin showing one of the dialogues between the two main characters.
The "If Only" Game is a story of mistaken trust and unforseen abuse between two teenagers and those in their lives. How the media in their world of 2008 makes it easier to prey and control one another while the law struggles to catch up to the gray areas within violations of mental safety that are breeched. "If only" we had seen the signs sooner. "If only" people were simply all good or all bad. Not all abuse is physical. Sometimes the most harmful people in our lives are not the ones we can see. Abuse defies gender, distance, age, and time. "If only" that were not true.
The director/playwright felt strongly that having a visual representation of the characters' digital communication would help convey the message and story.
